Nail Pro
What to look for in a nail pro.
First and foremost, I would make sure that the nail
pro was certified or licensed, according to state and
local laws.
A nail pro should be courteous and ready to help you
with any of your nail care questions. They should know
the answers to your questions without being vague. They
should also be able to advise you on your choice for
artificial nails and colors that will enhance your skin
tone. A quality nail pro will be up on all the latest
nail fashion and will be able to keep your nails looking
fashionable.
A good nail pro will know her products. She will be
able to explain to you what each product does and which
ones are quality. Before she does your nails she should
ask you questions about what you want and expect. She
should also be aware if your skin is sensitive to any
certain products or if you have health conditions that
could affect the color or density of your nails.
Your nail pro should have a clean workstation free from
debris and dust. All disposable nail care products should
be in a container for trash, not just lying on the table.
You should see disinfected and clean instruments in the
nail salon workstation.
Your nail pro should not smoke in the area. Many products
that are used in nail care are highly flammable so no
one should be permitted to smoke. Ventilation is very
important to make sure that the fumes from the nail care
products are not too strong causing a fire hazard as
well.
Organization is a great quality for a nail pro especially
in her workstation. Look for containers clearly marked
with the contents of each and every item. Also, as you
sit and wait for your turn, watch the nail pro, she should
thoroughly wash her hands with soap before touching
a client’s
hand, instruments and supplies that can not be disinfected.
Be sure she disinfects all instruments including the
nail bits used in her nail
drill.
A nail pro is not a physician, but should be able to
notice if you have any injuries to your nails, cuticles
or skin around your nails that need treatment. She should
be able to even advise you on nail health care. Recommending
good quality products for ingrown nails, brittle nails,
or discolored nails should be easy for her.
A good nail pro gets to know their customers and what
they like. If you can tell she will be your friend and
help you with your nail care decisions and products then
you have found a great nail pro.
