Nail Care

Nail care is very important to keep your hands looking nice and your nails free from infection and disease. What are nails made of? They are made of a hard protein called keratin. Our nails protect our fingers from injury and as long as we take good care of them they will keep protecting our fingers and toes. It takes around 90 days for our fingernail and toenails to grow from the base to the tip. So, we need to care of them and make sure they do not become weak or brittle.

What do you do to keep your nails healthy? Nail care is very important, just as important as keeping your body and hair clean.

First eat foods that have calcium, iron, vitamin B and potassium. Need ideas? Seafood, dairy products, celery, and soy are rich in these nutrients. Your nails need these nutrients to help with every day nail care.

You should drink 8 glasses of water each day to keep your body from dehydrating and yes, that includes your nails. Drinking water is essential to nail care. Your nails need water just like your hair and body. If your nails are splitting or are weak it could be from not drinking enough water.

Nails can become brittle during the summer months while you are enjoying the fun in the sun and swimming. Sun and chlorine can make your nails brittle. Remember to use moisturize after swimming and use sunscreen on your hands. Remember your nails are an extension of your body and caring for your nails is just like the rest of your body.

To protect your fingernails while washing dishes, gardening, or cleaning with any type of harsh chemical remember to wear gloves. If your nails are brittle, do not use perfumed lotions that have alcohol as this will cause the nails to become brittle.

Do not bite your nails. Not only is this bad for your nails, but it also bad for your teeth. This habit is sure not nail care. Quit using your nails to scrape stuff off the counter top, or off of the dishes, and do not use them to open letters. Using your nails as tools is never a good idea. Soaps and cleaners will dry out your hands and nails; remember to always use a hand lotion or cream after washing your hands.

Remembering all the above suggestions will help you with your nail care.
Now, you will be able to enjoy healthy nails that will look great and will be ready to painted or polished. Clean and healthy nails will in fact help when you go to the nail salon to get that manicure. The technician will be impressed with how healthy your nails have become by following the above tips.

Always when using your hands for the many tasks you do daily remember to use proper nail care to ensure healthy nails from the start of each day. Nail care will keep your hands beautiful through every job you do.
